Wanderlei Silva seminar

Recently went to the London Fight Factory Seminar given by Wanderlei Silva. thanks very much to the Fight Factory boys for organising and inviting me along – had a great time apart from popping out a couple of ribs and badly bruising the associates cartilages. Looking like it’ll take another 3 weeks to get better; has cost me a few private lessons and a fair bit in physio. Still glad that I went, though sometimes the option of taking up golf seems more attractive at my age.

Good thing about the seminar was the emphasis he put on MMA rather than jiu jutsu groundwork, i.e. in MMA you can get smacked about the face so you need to be aware of this when trying out your pure grappling moves. Salutary reminder for self defence teaching as well: the pure grappling work on the ground can be very satisfying but can all be rendered academic by a good punch, elbow, gouge or butt so we need to make sure that the training reflects this reality.
